Petite Four Couture wants to give a BIG Congratulations to our dear friend Karineh!

Karineh is expecting her first in just a couple months! To our complete irritation, she won't tell us the baby name but we just can not wait to meet her baby boy. If he is anything like Karineh, he will be brilliant, sincere and completely gifted.

Because life is obnoxious sometimes, my Bridal Shower and Karineh's baby shower fell on the same day yesterday! We sent a little care package for her because we just can not resist cute things.

Dearest Karineh, We are so proud of all of your accomplishments and the beautiful life and family you have created. Wishing you peace (and quiet) as you enter such a wonderful chapter of your life.

Here at Petite Four Couture, we know how extremely important the little details are when you’re planning an event. We pride ourselves on getting know our customers first and pay attention to their likes and dislikes as if they were our own. It may sound silly to others but we know how much time you spend thinking about things like flavors and colors for your day.

Not only do we deal with so many different vendors for multiple functions for our business, but I am also planning my own wedding that is just months away!! I am on linen, lighting, venue, photographer, draping, catering overload. Although I am confident in all of our vendors, I just have to give a big warm shout out the florist we’re using; Great Expectations : Flowers by Inka

I have made countless changes, deletions and additions to my wedding flowers, that even I got dizzy at some points. Being so detail oriented is definitely a blessing and a curse. Not only has our florist, Inka, been so prompt in confirming each time she’s received an e-mail, but yesterday she sent me an itemized list of all the changes I’ve made within the last few months. I pulled out our original contract and compared. She took note and organized my every scribble and every one sentence e-mail I’ve sent her from the very beginning.

Inka is an amazingly talented floral designer. Her work is traditional with a creative flair that makes every piece unique and reflective of the customer. I am so thrilled to see other business owners who take pride that their work will echo and wow their customer. We work hard at this every single day.

If you are in the Maryland area and are hosting any kind of event, I would recommend seeing what Inka can do for you.

We just love when we get to know the people we are baking for. We got to create petite fours for Megan's Birthday. Meg had a beautiful champagne brunch at her downtown home for a few of her close friends. We had so much fun during our consultations and doing dessert set up, she invited us to stay! Serving petite fours and fruit in lieu of birthday cake was a big success with the ladies. Bathing suit season is upon us!

Meg you are full of surprises and we've had a blast spending time with you. We wish you a very Happy Birthday. We hope all of your wishes come true!

We are elated about the weekend we just had! We have been designing and creating and planning and preparing for our trip to Philadelphia for weeks upon weeks.

It went beautifully.

We just wanted to share your very own BEHIND THE SCENES look at our website design and photography. However, first things first. We want to say a few very special things.

1. Thank you to the lovely and talented Cassandra Ellis for all of your generous help this weekend. Cassandra is an accomplished and amazingly clever designer and an up and coming photographer. Please go by her website and get a glimpse of her work. Cassandra: You are so gracious and we are so lucky to have your help and support.

2. What can I say about Philadelphia? A city who has completely separate parking lots made up of all handicap spots is seriously The City of Brotherly Love. ( I know!) Every time I go to Philly, I am more and more impressed with it's natural and charming beauty. We enjoyed so much being able to get out and play between working.

The Spring Collection {2009} - sneak peek

We can not tell you how excited we are for our very first Spring Collection! We have extremely high hopes for 2009 and after drooling over the world's most ridiculously amazing designers, I have a feeling it is going to be one of our favorites to create so far. This Spring it is all about classic silhouettes with some outrageous elements. There are a lot of jewel tones being mixed with muted monochromatic colors. Traditionally, petite fours are airy pastel colors, so we are pretty much obsessed about making the cakes bold and timeless for Spring.

So here is your official behind the scenes tour of our clippings, sketches and inspiration. We hope you're as excited as we are to see all of this come to life!

The one and only, ultra fabulous French designer Christian Lacroix has tag teamed with Evian to design a Limited Edition bottle. I, initially, saw the bottle flipping through one of my 700 bridal magazines and fell.in.love. It is absolutely stunning.

Voila! On Christmas morning my mother-in-law to be, had one tucked in a wine box for me. Not because I had mentioned it, but because she knows me and my love of rare glass bottles oh so well. I've had it sitting on a hanging crystal cake stand for ultimate inspiration.

How fabulous are these?

How much more fabulous would they be sitting on a dessert table with tiny cakes? Thank you Mr. Lacroix for the inspiration! And yay to marrying fashion and food like two of the most amazing women I know. ;)

Happy Holidays from PFC!

I know, I know. It took us long enough, right?

Well, we apologize for not checking in but it's been a hectic couple months here with the Holidays upon us. We've had lots going on and have seen some beautiful works of art come out of the kitchen.

We're also sad to inform all of our friends that we have lost a dear dear son, step son, and friend to Petite Four Couture. Pint was our little mascot and we love him dearly. Quite possibly the only thing cuter or sweeter than petite fours: he is and will be missed beyond words. We love you bear.

But for the first time in weeks, taking these photographs made me stop and enjoy. I was thrilled to take a moment to smell and touch and taste and look and simply indulge! Sorry for the picture heavy post but I just wanted to share what we've created.

As always, we want to thank everyone for their support this Holiday Season and to remind everyone of what's truly important. Love. Family. Friends.

Weekend Recap

It was definitely one of those picture perfect fall weekends. We started off acting like children choosing pumpkins at the patch. We, somehow, got lost leaving and ended up in Harper's Ferry West Virginia! Completely unexpected. Completely gorgeous. It is definitely up there on my top 5 dream neighborhoods. We had a delicious dinner outside on a patio overlooking the mountains during sun set. We went on a ghost tour and slugged coffee. The mountains and the trees and stone buildings and cobblestone went perfectly with the season. I absolutely adore everything about the Fall.

I just wanted to also wish a special Happy First Birthday to PJ! Whose mom has delicious taste in party favors. ; ) PJ's mom ordered Petite Fours for her Petite party as a thank you gift for everyone who helped her out this first year with the new baby. That is so sweet.

So, Happy Birthday PJ! This gorgeous season definitely inspired the cakes!

I was so honored to to actually be at the SmartCEO event where they recognized 25 women CEO's who are nothing short of leaders and role models. Hearing their stories was completely inspirational. Everything from Marketing gurus, lawyers to the president and CEO of Howard Bank.

To our friends - old and new

Hello friends,

I hope this finds everyone well. Just thought I would write you all to refresh your memory or in some cases introduce our baby. Our A-MAZING company that we have been working on for the past year.

Just some history:

Alicia and I met working together at a sales and marketing firm about two years ago. We pulled some seriously long and hard hours. We were at work at 6a.m. and didn't leave to go home until after 8p.m. most nights. The lessons and the knowledge we gained while working there is invaluable and immeasurable. We organized marketing campaigns based on who had the highest number in sales that week. Delegating and teaching lessons, building our own teams of employees, learning how to conduct interviews (8 hour long interviews!). We learned what it meant to hit the pavement. We went business to business all day long selling a product (ruining some really nice pairs of shoes). We learned about rejection. We learned about sales. We learned about people. And we definitely learned about being BROKE. At a 100% commission based job, it was pretty much DO OR STARVE. But most importantly we learned how to work hard and dream big.

On New Years Day, 2007 we decided that none of it was good enough. We needed to take what we had learned and start our own business. We had gained way too much knowledge to be working our proverbial asses off for someone else. And some how, some way we came up with Petite Four Couture.

The object:

Make delicious treats that everyone and their mother loves. And if you don't love petite fours just let me know so I can take you off my friend list. Kidding kidding. And if you don't know what petite fours ARE...we are about to show you. We're about to show everyone. They are one inch by one inch, 3 layer jam filled cakes hailing from France. Hand dipped in white chocolate ganache giving it a hard shell outside and a moist inside. Decorated with intricate, dainty marzipan flowers, ribbons or whatever our hearts or your minds desire. They have, in fact, been a staple on dessert menus at Versaille Palace since dessert became dessert. So with my love of eating and crafting and Alicia's love of baking and fashion - there you have it. A cake company designed around fashion. Each season we will have a new Collection. Packaged in hat boxes or jewelry boxes they make the PERFECT gift. Every single solitary petite four is hand glazed, hand dipped and hand decorated. Making each one completely couture.

So, while most of you have heard tid bits about us doing this, or walked in on our baking disasters or woken up in the morning to find the aftermath or found us still working 14 hours later, we're actually DOING IT. It's all happening. We've had some pretty serious orders and have FINALLY begun working on our website, started writing a blog and opened a bank account and have deposited a couple BIG FAT checks in there to surely make the next batch of cakes even sweeter.

We just want to start the company off right by thanking everyone who has and continues to offer up their time to help us. Whether it is offering up their kitchens, buying us new fun materials to work with, finding us books to teach us new techniques, helping us design, let us borrow an egg, helping us taste test, helping us package, telling their friends about us, or simply telling us "this is going to be amazing": THANK YOU!The first batch of Petite Fours Alicia and I made were made on about a 5x8 work space at our house in Fells Point. We rolled the marzipan out with a Jameson bottle in lieu of a rolling pin. They tasted questionable. But we assure you that now they taste incredible but we're hanging on to Jameson. We are thrilled! But we are looking forward to a MUCH BIGGER work space as we're trying to find investors for the company as I type this.

But as the economy gets more and more screwed up, I like to remind people that some of the most successful companies in the world were founded during some of the roughest times in our country. EG: During the Great Depression, Ford came out with their most high tech, most expensive car to that date and people bought it. And they continue to today. So, while things get bitter out their its nice to have something SWEET to look forward to.

And the icing on the cake: Recently, we received some junk mail. A 6x9 postcard selling us services. It was addressed to Petite Four Couture. And it was from the sales and marketing firm where Alicia and I met. Yes, one and the same. And with every ones help, it will be in the first picture frame when we open our first location.

Keep us in mind for the holidays, any occasion that happens to come along or if you're just craving something beautiful. Check back to our site while the "construction" happens and stop over to our blog just to say "Hey!"
